The Global AIDS Week of Action

Coalition of NGOs and people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS observed the Global AIDS Week of Action. It was a key opportunity for the civil society organisations and people living with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS to raise a collective voice to achieve universal access to essential medicines for people living with HIV in India.

A series of activities was organised to mark the Global AIDS Week of Action from 20-26 May, 2007. The International Candlelight Memorial, held at New Delhi, was one of the significant events that was dedicated to all those who succumbed to the epidemic of HIV/AIDS over the years, due to lack of awareness and treatment. It was also a gesture to support those who are living with HIV, educate the community leaders and others, raise awareness and decrease stigma related to HIV and AIDS.

Civil societies, celebrities, NGOs, people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS submitted a Memorandum to the Government of India, requesting for a stronger response, more accountability and more resources for the fight against HIV/AIDS. The memorandum was signed by the India HIV/AIDS Alliance, along with INP+, DNP+, PWN+, Voluntary Service Organisation (VSO), Plan India, Sahara Michaels Care Home, Action Aid International India, CENTAD, Lawyers’ Collective, Love Life Society, AHF India Cares and MSF.
